This artwork explores the concept of value through a multi-panel composition. The piece consists of five individual 4" x 6" Bristol board panels, each uniquely investigating value. When combined, the panels form a cohesive larger work. One panel transitions from white to middle grey, focusing on subtle shifts in light tones. A second panel explores the range from middle grey to black, highlighting deeper, darker values. The third panel emphasizes high contrast, showcasing the dramatic interplay between the lightest lights and the darkest darks. The fourth panel is executed entirely in micron pen, demonstrating the precision and versatility of linework in creating value. The final panel is a collage, using layered materials to build up areas of contrasting values.

To give the piece personal significance, I selected a subject with cultural relevance to me and divided it into the five panels. Each segment interprets the subject using the distinct value techniques assigned, allowing for both a unified composition and a varied exploration of value.
